In this article, Winston Smith argues that the complexity of relationships requires wisdom and that it’s easy to get disillusioned when you ask too much of relationships. Smith argues that wisdom teaches us who people really are, so we will not be naïve about evil. Part of being wise in relationships is understanding that people are sinners. Smith maintains that wisdom teaches us how to love, so even candid words of correction become pleasant, gentle words. He concludes that wisdom teaches us to trust God in the midst of relationships, and both how to speak and how to remain quiet.
