In this article, William Wood discusses the theory of determinism and the result that such a view has in counseling. Wood argues that such a view leads to despair rather than hope in counseling and cautions against such a theory. He examines a biblical alternative to determinism and ways that a biblical counselor can engage a person in ways that other models cannot. A reply to Wood’s article is found in Hilton P. Terrell’s “A Caution against Overstating a Case” in JPP 9:4.
