In this article, Paul Randolph argues that tragic events cause great stress for those directly affected. Psychologists have called these common reactions ‘Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.’ Christian counselors can use their understanding of distress reactions to traumatic events in counseling. Randolph argues that responses should to be tailored to the individual responses and needs, but all counselors should be prepared to respond to the spiritual nature of the trauma-affected person. He concludes that the key to our responses is to remember that Christ changes the lens through which we interpret all that we know about trauma.
