In this article, William Smith argues that biblical heroes were not models of perfection for us to imitate. Rather they were humans with flawed desires, motives, and actions. Why are their stories in the Bible? Smith maintains that they are in the Bible because they are like us: people who sin. The Bible uses their stories to show how God can use ordinary people in extraordinary ways. God’s pursues us despite the messes we make in our lives. Smith concludes that when we focus on who God is and what He is doing, it changes how we live.
