How can I obtain continuing education units (CEUs) for the 2022 CCEF National Conference?

This process is not as difficult as you may think, and we are here to help!

Each state board is different in its requirements, each state has various state boards (LPC, LSW, LMHC, etc.), and many state boards are going to an audit system that requires you to provide proof of CEU credits only if you are asked for them. Therefore, CCEF has found it more helpful to provide attendees with the materials they need to apply on their own for CEU credits (or have proof in an audit situation). Most of the attendees we have helped with CEU credits in the past have been able to claim the national conference hours toward their CEU requirements. We want to help you with that too!

A. If you need CEUs for your professional license, you should first contact your board of licensure and answer 4 questions:

  1. What is the deadline to submit an application for CEUs with my state board?  Some state boards require applications to be submitted before the conference begins.
  2. What material does my board need to process my application?  In year’s past, we made available upon request a national conference description, which is a several page document listing out the a) title and description of each session, b) speaker’s name and qualifications, and c) the time schedule for each session. Your board may require this information for a CEU application, or it may not. If you do need a national conference description, or if there is some other document we can try to help you obtain, please reach out to our CEU Administrator, Kellie Sironi, at ceusupport@ccef.org.
  3. Will my board recognize CCEF as a CEU provider?  You must determine if it will approve CCEF as a provider of that content. We have worked with many of you through the years to determine if your State will accept CCEF content. The list below contains information we have compiled. If you do not see your state listed below, you can talk to your board to determine what it needs to recognize CCEF or you can reach out to our CEU Administrator for help (ceusupport@ccef.org). You should update the information below because we cannot guarantee it current as of the time you review it.
  4. For those who will attend virtually: Will my board approve CEUs for my participation in the national conference via livestream or recorded content if I am not in person at the conference?  Each board is different. Some give CEUs for any type of conference material offered; some require the event to be live through streaming or a webinar format.

B. Now that you know what your board allows and what they need, please make sure you are registered for the conference. Then either obtain a 2022 Certificate of Attendance from the CEU table at the conference or print the one attached, and use it to document your participation in each session. You will record the length in minutes of each session that you watched. If you had to leave early, halfway through for example, you will only mark half of the allowed minutes. (Please note the certificate has two columns for tracking total hours, but you should only use one column. The other column is for the administrator to initial. Also, at the end, the form has one row for you to track minutes if your state uses a 50-minute hour and another for those states operating on a 60-minute hour. Please only fill out one column based on the standards of your state.)

C. Once you have completed your 2022 Certificate of Attendance, please have our CEU Administrator sign it in person at the conference or via email at ceusupport@ccef.org.

If you chose to email, we will review the certificates and print, sign, and scan them back to you. If you have any special deadline or if an actual signature (not a scanned one) is required, please make sure to let us know. Otherwise, you can expect to receive back your Certificate of Attendance within 2 weeks of us receiving it.

Not too hard, right?! We will be on site at the conference to help you with any questions you may have!

State CEU Information

PLEASE NOTE: You should confer with your board to see if the information below from your state is current! We cannot guarantee there have not been some changes since the time we gathered this information!

This webpage has been used to update licensees on various state board approvals or denials as they are received, or to provide information for those state boards that do not allow an application for credit to come from someone other than the license holder himself/herself. The term “board” is used to pertain to a board of counseling unless otherwise indicated. For other boards (social work, licensed addictions, etc.) the attendee should contact their specific board to determine the requirements of obtaining credit.

Alabama Expand

LPCs: Alabama does not pre-approve CEU credits and requires that continuing education units be offered for events provided by one of its approved providers. One of the listed approved providers is “any peer state counseling licensure board/department.” Attendees should review the materials available and contact the board to determine if the standard is met for peer state counseling licensure board/department.

Social Workers: For your use, the Alabama Social Work board approved the conference for 22 possible CE hours in 2019. No application was made since that time.

California Expand

CCEF is not an approved provider of CEUs through the Board of Behavioral Health if CCEF applies as an organization. Attendees should check with the board to see if they can apply for CEU credit on an individual basis.

Colorado Expand

Colorado does not appear to allow CCEF to become a pre-approved provider of CEUs for the conference. Attendees from CO should check with the state board on how to apply for credit as an attendee of the conference.

Iowa Expand

The Bureau of Professional Licensure does not pre-approve continuing education providers, sponsors or individual programs. It is the licensees’ responsibility to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board. For questions click here.

Potential sponsors are responsible for independently determining if the programs they provide conform to the continuing education requirements set forth in the rules regulations of the professional boards.

To make this determination, thoroughly review the rules for the board(s) in which you are interested prior to offering continuing education to Iowa licensees. By providing inclusive information about the content, objectives, and applicability of your program to professional practice, you will assist licensees to make informed decisions when selecting continuing education.

A percent of licensees in every profession regulated by the Bureau of Professional Licensure are randomly audited following each license renewal cycle. For auditing purposes the licensee must submit to the board office an individual certificate of completion issued to the licensee or evidence of successful completion of the course from the course sponsor. These documents must contain the course title, date(s), contact hours, sponsor, and licensee’s name. In some instances, licensees will be requested to provide to the board additional information to assure compliance with continuing education requirements, including program content, objectives, presenters, location and schedule. For this reason, sponsors should provide these items to licensees in writing. Many times an inclusive brochure meets this requirement.

Illinois Expand

CCEF is not an Illinois approved sponsor but CCEF has learned that IL may accept an attendee’s application for credit for attending the national conference if approved in other states. Attendees should review the materials listed in this document and then contact the board to determine if approval standards are met. The application form can be obtained from the board (also found here) and would require the following to be obtained from CCEF at ceusupport@ccef.org:

  1. an outline of the content of the program/main sessions & workshops
  2. a schedule of the program/main session & workshops
  3. a brief bio or vitae of each speaker
  4. a copy of the certificate of attendance
Kentucky Expand

In 2019, the Board of Licensed Professional Counselors approved the national conference for 25.5 hours. This approval was only good for 2019 but may give an indication on how Kentucky will respond to an application in subsequent years. If you have any questions, please contact Lyndsay Sipple, Boards and Commissions Support Specialist at lpc@ky.gov.

Louisiana Expand

The National Conference is not preapproved for CE credit. However, the Board of PCs and MFTs may still approve the content of the conference for CE credit if, upon an audit, the Board determines the conference meets its criteria. Attendees should determine if the national conference meets the criteria and maintain the documentation in their individual files in the event of an audit.

Michigan (Board of Social Work) Expand

The board has previously stated that if the conference is approved by another state’s board of social work it will be approved by MI. Attendees wanting credit from MI Board of Social Work should contact that Board directly to verify this information. Attendees should review the materials in this document to determine if the standards are met.

Pennsylvania Expand

Attendees must apply on their own. Individual applicants must apply to the state before the conference starts. For materials that may be necessary for application, contact ceusupport@ccef.org.

South Carolina Expand

CCEF is not a pre-approved sponsor or NBCC approved sponsor for SC purposes. That may not be a problem, however. The website of the Board of Professional Counselors, MFTs, and Psycho-Educational Specialists states:

Are licensees required to obtain CE specifically from Board approved sponsors or NBCC or AAMFT approved sponsors?

No, however the benefit of selecting a sponsor who has already been reviewed and approved by this licensing Board or NBCC or AAMFT is automatic acceptance for continuing education hours, as long as it is relevant to your area of practice and offers professional development in your profession. The board regards it licensees as professionally responsible to determine what CE is appropriate for their continued professional development and it can be obtained anywhere in the United States, Canada or abroad. Licensees should be careful and make their selections with organizations, etc. who have developed a history of providing quality educational experiences that comply with the requirements outlined in the board regulations. If you are considering training in a specialized area, you should focus on the presenters’ specialized training/certification/registration in that particular area.

Consult here and here to determine the requirements and whether you meet them. We are happy to provide you with the speakers’ bios and the conference information, as well as a Certificate of Attendance for those sessions you attended. You will need to make sure you comply with the regulations and reporting requirements from there.

Texas Expand

Texas no longer provides any CEU provider, including CCEF, with a pre-approval number (as they have in the past). Thus, applicants must determine if the session meet the TX requirements (see those requirements below) and apply on your own.
